To ensure a safe and organized experience for all volunteers and staff, please review the following safety guidelines before beginning your shift: Lifting & Physical Safety Always lift with your legs, not your back—ask for assistance with items over 20 lbs. Use carts, dollies, or bins when moving multiple or heavy items. Keep walkways and workspaces clear to prevent tripping hazards. Wear closed-toed shoes and appropriate clothing for lifting, sorting, and working in storage areas. Organization & Cleanliness Maintain a clean and orderly work area at all times. Properly label and store donations according to instructions from staff. Avoid stacking items too high or placing items in unstable positions. Health & Hygiene Sanitize hands frequently, especially when handling hygiene items or food-related donations. Avoid handling donations that appear hazardous or unsanitary—notify staff immediately. Stay home if you’re feeling sick or unwell, and notify staff of any symptoms that arise during your shift. Tools & Equipment Use all tools, box cutters, and carts as instructed—if you’re unsure how to use something, ask a staff member. Do not operate any power tools or heavy equipment unless specifically trained and authorized to do so. Emergency Procedures Be aware of emergency exits and evacuation procedures. Report any accidents, injuries, or unsafe conditions to staff immediately. In the event of an emergency, follow directions from VCP staff.
VCP staff may cancel the event up to 24 hours in advance due to extreme weather or other unforeseen circumstances. If you need to cancel your participation, please remove yourself from the volunteer roster and email Frank [Your Last Name] at the address listed above. Thank you!
